Talkin Tarn is a popular local attraction, it is about 3 miles away from Castle Carrock near the neighbouring village of Talkin. It is quite feasible to walk to Talkin Tarn from Castle Carrock or there is parking available if you want to drive.

A variety of boating activities take place at Talkin Tarn as well as fishing and other sports. Visitors can walk round the tarn or hire pleasure boats and view the soundings from the water.

There is a cafĂ©, gift shop and children’s play area near the car park as well as a bird watching shelter at the other end. Arts and crafts fairs often take place in one of the old boat houses close to the car park.

If you choose to walk, there is a much nicer route from Castle Carrock which leads over Hynam Bridge and through Talkin village itself. Google maps doesn’t currently show the all footpaths required to get there, but if you buy a local map of the area e.g. OS Landranger 86 Haltwhistle & Brampton, the way should become clear. Alternatively you could follow this free walking guide.
