Another successful and fun day for the village. The show was again run in conjunction with the annual leek club competition.
The sun shone!
We had a brilliant new category of the heaviest marrow for under 16s. The mammoth seed was provided and germinated by our Judge, Trevor Ord. Young plants were then distributed amongst interested young people. We had some great marrows entered in the show as a result and one absolute giant grown by Emily Grant. We are hoping to continue this new category.
The children’s categories were well supported with some brilliant lego models, decorated buns, some fantastic vegetable art and very creative growing cress.
We did not have a photography section this year but it will be back next year with this year’s show as a theme.
The baking and vegetable sections were good although numbers were down from previous years. We are keen to find out from everyone what they would like to see in the schedule that would inspire them to bake, grow and make. Any ideas please contact Hilary Holland.
The dog show was brilliant, thanks to Linda Boon for organising it. This year it was held on the Marr outside the Duke of Cumberland and attracted lots of dogs and their owners competing for the coveted Scrufts Cup.
After the show produce was auctioned to raise money for St Peter’s and as usual that was great fun.
Finally, there was The Great Castle Carrock Prize Draw.
Yet another fantastic day made possible by so many helpers, the School, the Duke of Cumberland, the judges, the sponsors, the leek club and the auctioneer.
